Overview

CoBuild Labs developed a clinical-grade wearable 12-lead ECG monitoring system integrated with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for continuous cardiac monitoring. Designed as a lightweight half-vest with a rear-opening chest strap, the battery-powered device enables comfortable long-duration monitoring while delivering high-fidelity ECG recordings and synchronized motion data. The platform is ideal for hospitals, clinical research, and remote patient monitoring.

The Challenge

Traditional 12-lead ECG systems rely on multiple cables and adhesive electrodes, making long-term monitoring uncomfortable and restricting patient mobility. The client required a wearable solution that could provide clinical-grade cardiac monitoring without compromising comfort or reliability. The key engineering challenges included:

  • Designing a comfortable half-vest that could be worn for extended periods.
  • Developing a rear-opening strap mechanism for quick and easy application by healthcare professionals.
  • Maintaining consistent electrode contact during patient movement.
  • Capturing high-quality 12-lead ECG signals in a wearable form factor.
  • Integrating IMU sensing for synchronized motion and posture monitoring.
  • Achieving continuous Bluetooth data streaming with minimal latency.
  • Optimizing power consumption using ultra-low-power electronics for extended battery operation.
  • Developing a lightweight and portable device suitable for hospital use.
